This T204 Nichols (http://cgi.ebay.com/1909-T204-Ramly-Simon-Nichols-PSA-2-Athletics_W0QQitemZ170448767066QQcmdZViewItemQQptZ US_Baseball?hash=item27af89c85a) on eBay is a Fritsch reprint (http://www.fritschcards.com/reprints/1901_1910/T204Ramly.html). The border sizes are too large , the gold color is wrong, and the upper left corner has creasing that would never happen with an authentic T204, which would have white breaking through the surface of the creases.

These Fritsch reprints are a blight. They get listed by eBay sellers as authentic all the time, but this one is worse because it's in a PSA 2 holder. My first thought was that someone swapped the card and resealed the holder, but given that it's only worth ~$100, it seems more likely that PSA botched this.

That looks real bad, interesting that it even has a real dark tone, never mind a bad scan.

Look at that upper left corner. The card looks "thick" because I would think a ding like that on a real T204 would have broken off the corner. This is why 3rd party grading companies need people that understand the material. I thought that the card has to go to three different graders? I guess all three graders didn't know what they were doing... like a bank VP from New Orleans told me about a few electrical engineers that planned his data center, must be a bunch of KNFs.

Although difficult to tell for certain, it also appears to not have the raised/embossed ridge around the gold border.

That one is so bad I almost have to give the benefit of the doubt to PSA until the slab and card are seen in person. Nice blurry scan, eh?

The scan is so blurry that it is difficult to make out the serial # on the flip but after trying a few combos, I found this on the PSA Certification site:

Wow. Major blunder by PSA to be sure - Unless slab opened and reprint inserted in place of original card.

Speaking of fake cards in real holders:

http://cgi.ebay.com/1910-TY-COBB-T206-RED-BACK-GAI-MINT-9-BASEBALL-CARD-RP_W0QQitemZ150416610991QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Base ball?hash=item23058756af#ht_500wt_1094

Perhaps someone could call GAI tomorrow and give them a head's up. Tomorrow is Monday, right?

The GAI graded card say "1983 Capital Reprint on it" so it is not a fake one getting past them.

is there anything wrong with that one? GAI lists it as a reprint on the label.

Seems pretty odd to me. GAI is authenticating a card that is not authentic.

Barry, the card is an authentic 1983 Capital Reprint.

I never quite understood the logic of grading a reprint.

Or do the grading companies grade them as reprints if they come in misidentified as real?

There's lots of gradedwagner reprints on Ebay, so I assumed people were getting them graded for some reason.

Same crappy T204 Nichols (http://cgi.ebay.com/T204-RAMLY-SIMON-NICHOLS-PSA-2_W0QQitemZ360248263758QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Baseb all?hash=item53e078444e), different seller, this time with no images provided. A little difficult to caveat emptor when you can't see the fake you're buying.

The bid history (http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=170448767066) of the old item shows it's the same guy selling it now.

that T204 looks way darker than any I've seen up close. I was just over at my brothers house and he collects them. He doesn't think it'sa real Ramly. Just who is grading the pre-war cards at PSA ? Encapsulating a Frisch re-print is about as embarrassing as it can get for a grading company....or am I wrong ? To think that some collectors look upon PSA as the Authority on card grading....what a joke

Another reprint in a holder: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300411703211&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT Can't someone legally stop CSA? And why does eBay still allow these auctions???
