and this incredibly scarce Walsh letter written to his Mother in 1928, getting her caught up on his very busy career of managing the business of the two greatest players in the world.

Here are a couple of scorecards

This is one of Ruth's earliest barnstorming game. 1918 Ruth and a few other Red Sox players participated in this game which occured just a week after the 1918 world series. Ruth pitched in this exhibition game and is in the lineup batting fourth. I also have the newspaper clipping that was saved with the program that says before the game for the benefit of the Hartford troops in WWI two items were auctioned off - 1) Ball hit by Ruth for a triple in the world series and 2) Ty Cobb game used bat that a Hartford man acquired from Cobb. Where are those items now!

1927 Ruth/Gehrig Barnstorming Program. Has a few tiny snapshots pasted inside the program. One shows Ruth playing first base

Terrific Post Patricka.

Thanks Ben. You know I've bought so much from the Walsh Family, but this letter was from an auction house. Go figure.

Damn Clint. Those tickets are superb! And the snapshot as the companion piece makes an incredible presentation. Really top-notch stuff Clint.

Thanks Jimmy, love all of your photos too. Perez, when you going to sell that to me? :) Very Sweet pennant. Here's some repro photos from the same game in Blue Rapids.

You think the town of Blue Rapids and the surrounding communities got any work done on that Friday? I wonder if they canceled school too?

Dan, all accounts in the papers say they shut everything down including the banks and schools. Everybody in town was mobilized in some way either promoting, baking selling tickets or whatever was needed to get the game and make sure it ran smoothly. This was not only a game but an investment for the town. They had to supply so much money to get the teams to Blue Rapids. I can't recall now but I think the boosters made around $2000 after paying off the teams. I'll try to post some of the newspaper articles.

After going back through the accounts I believe it was closer to $900 they made. Here's a couple of articles that the town paper printed. Papers were so big back then that it's impossible to scan the whole page at once.

Collecting companion pieces for what ever your main collecting interest are, is for me, by far and away the most rewarding part of the hobby.

As we're starting to show here on this thread, using your imagination a little can pay off big for your collection!

Be creative in finding ways to tie certain pieces together. There's nothing better Gents then when it all starts to come together. I just love it. Keep it up guys, well done everyone.

Best, Jimmy

These two are both from Babe's barnstorming stop in Dunsmuir, CA. 1924. They both come from Christy Walsh's scrapbooks and the details on the backs are all in his hand. The content that Walsh wrote regarding the image of him batting is awesome.

Ticket strips from a game in Fort Smith, Arkansas, featuring the Willie Mays 1956 Major League Negro-American All-Stars...a copy of the program (not mine) is attached for reference. Andrews Field hosted numerous big-league appearances, but this game was apparently the last.

One of my favorite items -- a vintage suitcase from the teens or 20s with the complete uniform and glove of a traveling baseball player. You can only see part of it in the top left corner of the photo, but on the inside of the suitcase lid the player has written a list of the things he needs to remember to take on the road with him.
