What's the easiest card in the set?

With some of the sets that I've been active with it becomes apparent that one card is easier to find than any other.

For example in my opinion these are the easiest cards (forgetting backs) in the following sets:

T206 Red Cobb

T207 Walter Johnson

M116 Ty Cobb


What do you think? Which cards have been the most available to you while collecting a set?

I always found T205 McGraw and Matty to be quite easy.

Although Im only collecting the e94 set in one color, I've seen a lot of cards of both Evers and Leach pop up for sale over the past year. I cant say they are the easiest, but there certainly seems to be no shortage.

These two come to mind on a couple sets I've worked on.
E90-1 - Bobby Wallace
1914 CJ - Johnny Evers

That being said, Frank Chance in the t202 was the easiest for me. First card I got from the set and somehow I have 7 now.

Mr. Newcomb's T207 articles point to this as the easiest T207 also. Can't recall what Mr. Reader thought was the easiest T206 :confused:

I totally agree with the T205 comments as well.

McGraw, Matty and Cobb have to be at the top of the easiest.

Also E90 Wallace is a good call.

Some of the caramel issues are a bit harder to put a finger on the easiest card. E94 are all so tough I couldn't really say.

I'm tempted to say that for E98, Dooin is the card that I've seen the most of and was the easiest to accumulate the 4 colors, but usually it's the big Hofers that have survived in the largest numbers so it's hard to say.

To immediately contradict that statement, :p, there are a couple caramel sets where the hofers/stars are the hardest to find. E90-3 with Chance, Gandil come to mind.

E90-3 Schulte is in my opinion the easiest to find from that set.

T205s

Okay...granted that Cobb and Matty seem to come up every week, I do not think they are the easiest...

Doyle, Dooin and Meyers seem to pop up all the time. Constantly.

McGraw seems to have a great abundance of T205s.

Austin comes up often but does not seem to be the most abundant even though it is currently available with nearly every back (Off the top of my head, I think Austin comes with the most possible backs currently).

In my collection...I own 22 T205 Doyles, by far the one T205 card I own the most of.

T201 - all cards are easy. This has got to be the easiest T-card set to complete. I think it's the best set for a novice T-card collector.

Joshua- do you agree as a general statement that T205 National Leaguers are more abundant than the American Leaguers? When I handled a lot of T205 that seemed to be the case, but I never kept a tally.

And I agree with Robert that E90-3 Schulte is relatively easy.

E102 Lajoie seems to be among the easiest from that set.

Josh if I am not mistaken i think Bridwell is a VERY abundant multi backed player in the T205 set. I have seen him with every normal back, and I own an AB, and cycle, and have seen him on Broadleaf and if I am not mistaken he was on a hindu I was offered sometime back.

In the E254 set Cobb & Wagner are especially easy. Also pretty common are the majority of the Giants, Pirates and Athletics players.

The N172's are interesting and it seems like the N.Y. guys are probably among the most common but there are soem pretty notable exceptions (like Connors' 1888 batting pose). If I had to pick a particulr player it would probably be California Brown, Danny Richardson, Tim Keefe and I'd throw John Clarkson in there as well.

In T216's I'd have to say Bresnahan is the easiest and comes up for sale the most frequently.

I agree...Bridwell is very easy and pops up alot.

National League players in the T205 set seem more readily available than American League. Also, Tigers seem a little harder to find than others but not by much.

Bridwell is available with Broadleaf brown/black, Cycle, Hassan 30/649, Piedmont 25/42, Polar Bear, Sovereign, and Sweet Cap. red. I have not confirmed him with an American Beauty or Hindu back yet (if you have one, drop me a scan of the back and I will add it to the list). That is a total of 10 backs.

Austin is confirmed with American Beauty black, broadleaf brown/black, cycle, drum, hassan 30/649, Honest Long Cut, Piedmont 25, Polar Bear, Sovereign, Sweet Cap red. That is a total of 12. I also feel that an Austin Piedmont fact. 42 will surface at some point but have not seen it yet.

If Bridwell can be confirmed with Hindu and American Beauty than I could be convinced that it is truly the king.

Andrew Jerome emailed me to let me know that the Pirate players were the easiest cards in the E90-2 set. Funny guy huh?

And likewise in the E90-3 set, I've had no trouble finding Cubs and White Sox.

Rhett is correct that Giants players are by far the easiest to find. Goodwin was based in NYC and the Giants were extremely popular and successful in 1887-89.

Do you feel that certain players/teams were actually printed in greater numbers or just that more survived in the region due to popularity?

Obviously we know that some cards like T206 Cobb were actually printed more and I've had suspicions about a few regional issues printing more of certain cards.

Robert- if you are referring to Old Judge Giants I do think they were printed in larger numbers than other teams. They had so many star players and were perennial league champions- and the cards were produced in New York. I'm sure Jay and Joe would corroborate that.

T3....... its Mathewson and Cobb by far, because you could pick the players you wanted.

A Tango Eggs set can not be completed.... but the Jennings is actually an extremely common card to locate. The older guides used to say there was about 20 known, but the real # is more like 10X that.

T200 cincinnati was a piece of cake and i'm still missing 3 pieces from the Fatima.
T206 Matty Dark Cap has been in my possession now for 26 years. EASY!
T205 Matty was also easy--got that one back in '83.
