I picked up a 1934 and was wondering if the 1934 is tougher than the 1935? It seems there is a big price difference according to VCP. Thanks in advance. Also just notced it appears to be labeled as 1935 and back says 1934? Please help!

The cards that show stats for 1933 on the back were issued in 1934. The cards that show stats on the back for 1934 were issued in 1935. Cards that show stats on the back for 1935 were issued in 1936.

Here is an image of the back of the 1934 and 1935 Grove Diamond Star cards. 1934 is on the left. 1935 is on the right. Both are green backs.

There are a number of nuances to the set. In fact, there was a great article on the set in a recent issue of Old Cardboard. You should definitely order a copy of the issue from them. Generally speaking, '34s will be more expensive than '35s. The other cards that carry a premium are the high-numbers (which start at #97) and star cards and error cards (like Greenberg/Greenburg). I've got an excel spreadsheet for download that you grab a copy of from our blog (http://www.cardpricer.com/blog/?attachment_id=23).

I've got to re-post the article I wrote on the set; however, I won't be able to do it until the beginning of the week. I'll direct message you when it's up if you'd like. Also, my father is somewhat of a set enthusiast, so if you have any questions for him, shoot me an email (blacksoxfan@cardpricer.com) (blacksoxfan@cardpricer.com) and I'll make sure he sees it.

Take care,
Ted Golden

Interesting to note that both the 34's and 35's have a copyright of 1934 on the bottom reverse....

The 1934-1936 Diamond Stars backs were printed in either green(1934-1935)or blue(1935-1936).It's hard for me to tell from the scan, but your back looks blue.Nice card,by the way!!

The Grove card does not come with a blue back. The backs are green, regardless of the year of issue. The copyright date on both cards is 1934, as Leon mentioned.

The same case can be made for other cards in the set, and sometimes there is a bit of price difference with the different years. When I first started to collect these cards I noticed that some years seemed harder to find then others, but it was a great challenge and the set is easier to put together then most if you wanted to include all the variations.
