Hello, I noticed on the 1951 bowman mantle that I own a the end of his name a small "o" appears and was wondering why this occured. scan attached. any help would greatly be appreciated. thanks

That tiny "o" is a printer's mark that is found randomly on 1951 Bowman cards.

My set has 8 cards with that "o".

Yup, print flaw caused by dirty printing plate, if Im not mistaken.

PS what made that card get an "A" grade. I can see the tape residue in the corners, but is the back messed up too?

Close. Not actually a dirty plate, but a bit of debris on the rubber offset blanket that transfers the ink from the plate to the paper.

This reminds me that I've got to ask about the proper technical name for this print defect. The shop I used to work for way back called them hickeys.

Frank, the back of the Mantle is flawless, so I am guessing it got a "A" grade is due to the tape. also thanks again for the info from everyone.
