Pretty interesting since the only thing my profile comtains is that I am an attorney, nothing else, no home, marital status, name, etc. Either this is an attorney card stalker or some putz has decided to phish Net54 members to try and get their info for some reason.

How did she get your email address? Only registered members can PM or send email through the system.

Re-reading her email, I think she pulled your email off of the old forum, where everyone's email was public. On the new forum she would have to be approved by Leon in order to be able to email you, and even then, the email would come through the Net54baseball email system, not from her email account directly.

I got the same email!

edit to say: this could be a network54.com thing..... not this site. (the old site)

Bob, there are fraudsters all over Net 54, why can't there be stalkers and phishers too?

Matt

I got the email as well. She's almost certainly pulling off the old forum. New one is much more secure and makes this sort of thing virtually impossible.

Me too......does this look familiar......? ?

One of two thoughts:
1) either it is a real woman who has the mental picture of an advanced baseball card collector (54 guys) who is rich, middle aged or older, lonely and has no spouse or girlfriends because they spend all their time collecting cardboard ; or
2) this is some cretin guy who is trying to get info or God knows what from us .

Sounds like the "Fox and the Grapes"......:) perhaps a little envy, since you haven't received this "love letter", yet ? :)

Do not despair.....she (he, or it) are monitoring our reactions to these emails on this thread. So be patient, you too
will receive one soon.

She had me send her a photo of myself holding a placard with my social security number on it. Should I not have done that?

Not to be left out I too got the email. It is 100% from the old board as this (whatever they are) said they got the profile from "network54.com"..Actually our forum domain name was
www.network54.com/Forum/153652/ (http://www.network54.com/Forum/153652/)

..We are no longer hosted by, or use the software of, Network54.com. Thank goodness. We are Net54baseball.com, use completely different software, and are hosted by a hosting company in the UK that specializes in hosting this software. This board software is much safer than before but no public forums can be completely immune from idiot trolls.
...For a minute I was going to be flattered....

No message like that for me. And I will say; with all of the issues on AOL; they do a great job of getting rid of spam emails before you ever see them.

Sadly, I got the email too -- but I get literally 10 emails a day from various overseas scams usually requesting me to send large sums of money in exchange for riches beyond my wildest dreams.

I got the same email also.

TBOB suggested that maybe she is after middle-aged, rich or lonely men. I never considered those aspects. I thought maybe she contacted me because in my profile I mentioned that I won the pie eating contest at the county fair 3 years in a row. :D

And I keep telling my wife, "honey, I'm not looking at porn!"
Then she sees this email, lol!
I told her it was a maid service for card collectors but my wife's not buying it!

She heard tooooo many stories about the old Willow Grove shows and the strip joints and hookers!

Well? C'mon guys - who's going to answer the email and find out where it goes? What a riot. Sometimes I swear these writings from foreigners with the broken English are written by some guy in Iowa or something. The language mistakes are so hilarious they seem like they have to be made up.

There are at least 2 suspect emailers to choose from; and, one is on Facebook.

My guess is, therein lies the connection.

And strange enough, this "emailer" thinks we are the new "hip crowd" from Studio 54.
The famed disco hangout in the '70s in NYC on 54th Street. :)

I love facebook! I've never gotten anything sketchy from facebook.
my theory is someone targeted card guys because of the stereotypical view society has, is that most card collectors are single with money and cards/toys.
You know, like the 40 year old virgin movie!
They don't know about the strip joint in every city and escort services used by a lot of card guys in the 70's/80's.

The card business used to be fun! Now, like I tell everyone, it is a shell of its former self.

Listening to Zappa's What Kind of Girl on the White Album changing the words from music star to card guy and changing hit record to graded Cobb card!

Gotta love it, card groupies!

Here's the good news and the bad news.

Good news: this targeted every message board on network54.com, not just ours. They weren't targeting "card guys".

Bad news: You are all likely now on a major spam list.

Here's how the little scam works, they write a computer program to go through the millions of posts to extract any email addresses they find. Then they send an email to all of the addresses. If it doesn't "bounce" then they know they have a legit active email address that they can sell to other spammers.

All you can do about it is NOT post your email address to any forums (network54, the old site had some serious privacy issues) and get some good anti-spam software.

I'm surprised a few board members haven't come on to defend the person who sent the email. After all, she's a great guy with a great reputation and would never send an inappropriate email even though "she" just sold your email address to a spam company for 1/10 of one cent.

barrysloate

I'm worth more than 1/10 of a cent...now I am really insulted!

So does this mean that we can now add a personal's section in the B/S/T forum?

I already have my ad done if Leon approves.... :)

I'm single, athletic male with no social life except for visiting baseball card forums. I love midnight walks around empty ball parks, spending evenings inf front of a PC surfing the internet while having cheetos with bottles of diet coke. I'm looking for a single female, preferably in near mint condition with no qualifiers (some creasing on the skin is okay), prefereably post war (definitely not 19th century).

So is Tbob getting married to this woman? Are they registered for gifts on this forum? Maybe we pitch in on a gift for the couple!

Ack! Ha-ha  My wife is extremely literate, a 57 year old former French and English teacher with impeccable grammar. If I ever had an illicit romance with a card loving gal, she would at least be able to avoid speaking broken English and be able to communicate!

Actually, in addition to spam software, if you use Outlook as I do, you can right click on the email "she" sent and add it, and the senders domain, to a blocked list. Or you can email back and try to get something going AND if you do please report back what she looks like...

I want to attend Ricky's wedding and it should be soon after the women read his net54 personal ad!
We need to make a calendar of "the Women of Vintage Cards" and have Leon sponsor it! It's probably the only subject not covered by a calendar!
I have an ex that was in the adult fim industry and we can use her as Ms. January!
Back in the late 70's my hero at shows was Don Lepore of NY. He is a few years older than I am and he ALWAYS brought a fine foxy young ladie or two with him to shows. I loved the Willow Grove shows as he was near our spot.
At the CPU Marc Lewis "Willie, Mickey, and the Duke Show" in Manhattan, he had different women each day! I spent lots of money and gladly paid whatever they said the price was for cards I did not need!
Start a new thread: What show has the best strip joints near it?
My vote is the old Willow Grove shows!
Have a great weekend everyone!
