I assume that's a PhotoShop job and not PSA giving their opinion on which way the card should be displayed?

David:

I hate to tell you this. I mean I really don't want to be the one to break it to you. In fact, I hope someone may have PMed you and I am not the one to break this to you. I live by the credo: "No one loves the messenger that brings bad news." Who knows there is a tiny possibility that I could be wrong and besides it's not the end of the world if I'm right - you have a fabulous collection anyway. But...again, I didn't want to be the one to break this to you, buuuttttt that's not Buzz Arlett. It's Alexander Arlett (his brother). No big deal. He wasn't such a bad player, anyway.

I almost made the same mistake too.

Jacklitsch
11-03-2009, 01:10 PM
As usual T.H.E. Cat is correct. While both Buzz and Pop played for Oakland in 1918 the player pictured is Alexander "Pop" Arlett.

Damn nice card though. 1918 is widely recognized as the toughest of all zeenut issues mainly due to the War. I think too, though not as often mentioned, that the influenza outbreak of 1918 may have played a role.

If it makes you feel any better, I was relatively excited last week to get a Herman Pillette card only to find out it was Ted Pillette.

Hmmm, what's that T. Pillette on the front of the card mean? Cat begins to contemplate: Must be his nickname: "Tough guy" Herman Pillette.....yeah, yeah, that's the ticket.

Nice! Where did it come from?

The Fatima Premium came from Grandpa's attic via the last Heritage Auction. (just kidding about the attic part).... I had been wanting one and this one is actually in the upper echelon of conditions I have seen them in. It didn't meet reserve so I made an offer after the auction and it was accepted. I picked it up yesterday and had a nice lunch with Chris Ivy....This Premium is huge....

Thanks! I'm thrilled with it. My favorite cards are the ones that have a tiny flaw like a small bit of paper loss on the back edge or a small wrinkle that drops the card down a couple grades. It's a great way to get awesome looking cards on the cheap. :) I've looked the card over several times and I have yet to find the issue. Of course I hadn't thought of looking for glue.

Thanks Blair. I completed the regular color set first and have been collecting the black and white proofs and blank backs lately. The prices for these two groups (at least on ebay) has been going down so maybe I can get this finished. As far as the blank backs go, a couple I am chasing are cards I have never seen before anywhere- a blank back Keeler springs to mind.

Not really collecting the E95 set but couldn't pass this grouping at a very reasonable price. The backs all have a tiny bit of damage, not bad at all, which accounts for SGC lowering the boom on the grades.

I received my 9th HRK catcher, John Tiedeman, today from Canada.

Since the Walter Boles HRK crops off his glove making it impossible to identify the card as a catching pose that leaves only 3 more catching pose HRKs that I need.

I have seen several Walter Schmidt HRKs over the last few years, and I have been told that Ralph Kreitz and August Fisher are also catcher pose cards.

So I need the following three (3) HRKs to complete my run:

August Fisher
Ralph Kreitz
Walter Schmidt

I also want to take this opportunity to thank one of our board members again for his generosity. He sent me 3 items on my want list that he had duplicates of in his collection. I can't thank him enough!

Needless to say, I had a pretty good day adding 4 PCL cards to my collection.

Believe me, they look just as good in person. :)

I replaced my own scan for the T201 :D

I got this obak from board member Bob Craik. The write-ups on the back of the 1911's are priceless. But this fellow, Ten Million, was from Washington State, my home. I'm glad to have this card.

Couple of big 'uns and a plethora of small dakine from America's most unfocused want list.

Great night for T210s tonight on ebay. One has to wonder if the relatively faint interest was due to ebay's glitches lately.

Nice pick ups Bob ;)

I was happy with what my Series 1's went for (but I could always be "happier") .............. but I was shocked how low some of the 2's went for.

I should also mention that Chris threw in this cutout of a '37 Exhibit 4 on 1.
It was much appreciated. I have added a look of the "uncut" 4 on 1, courtesy of "Old Cardboard" for you to view. It makes you wonder where the other 3 ended up.

Just picked this up...I couldn't pass up a full signature of Wheat! It has to be one of few out there I am guessing.

That Wheat is awesome -- I love his signature, especially in full.

I just traded a ton of stuff for this gem, originally from the Jeff Morey collection:

Hi all. Just picked up this Marquard on eBay for $63 delivered. I was looking at the SGC population report and noted that only 9 Marquard 1911 T206 "Follow Through" versions of the card have been graded. This one also includes the Sweet Caporal factory 42 overprint if I am correct. Can anyone confirm the rarity of this card or am I mislead by the pop report?
Edit: I have searched the rest of the Follow Through designs of Marquard currently on eBay and only this one was an overprint back, with only one other being a Sweet Caporal at all. There are two Polar Bears backs too but I believe this back must be a rare one, as the majority were Piedmont.

One has to wonder if the relatively faint interest was due to ebay's glitches lately.

The items I watched, bid on, and won on Sunday the 22nd went remarkably cheap. Some for half of most recent VCP! I agree with your theory - I think bidders were put off that weekend by the glitches...lucky for me (and for you - nice T210s!).

Cheers,
Blair
