I spoke to Marshall a few times on the phone when I started VCP and he was so helpful to getting us started. A extremely nice person and an amazing collection.

Thank you for that... I've sold both him and Olbermann a bunch of cards over the years and I always love seeing stories about them!

His 51, 52, and 53 Mantle's are simply amazing. What Gems his collection holds.
I also think that it's cool that he still has his first baseball card.
What a spectacular collection!

I wish Leon could get him to speak at the Net54 dinner.

Well, first of all it's not set in stone I will do a Net54 Dinner in 2010. I am on the fence about it. If we do have a dinner I might be able to get Marshall, who I have a pretty good rapport with, to speak. He used to participate on the old board a little bit. I need to give him a call soon so will ask about it.....

So far I have enjoyed putting the dinners together. With everything going on with me right now I am just not sure. Also, we have had sponsorship before and there is no definite sponsorship in the future. I can foot part of it but probably not all of it. Have you ever put together a party for 175+ people, at a place you know nothing about, with dinner and with an open bar for 6 hours? It's not a 2 hour project to get it done.....We will see. I would say I am 50/50 on it. Now, if someone else (Jeff) wants to handle it....then I am all for going and having a good time and having no worries....As I said, we shall see....

If you don't do the dinner, could you maybe turn your attention to getting Net54ers reduced parking rates at the National?

very cool piece. fun to watch seems to be a true collector who turned it into an investment.

Leon,
I really appreciate all the effort and money you have put into the Net 54 dinners in the past. They are definitely one of the highlights of the National. I know I speak for a lot of people when I say that. I hope you reconsider. I have no doubt that individuals would be happy to pay their fair share if there is not a sponsor/partial sponsor. But of course, it would still take time to organize the details.

P.S. I second the nomination of Marshall Fogel as a speaker. That was a great little video piece.

Predictions for 2010 (If Jeff takes over the dinner planning):

Dinner will cost more (read: not free).
Food may be worse.
Open bar will become a cash bar.

But... the entertainment will be, how should I say it... livelier!

(Remind everyone to bring lots of single dollar bills, and bail money.)
