I truly think this will work out best for one of these types of transactions. If for some reason the seller doesn't want to do it this way then that should be a major red flag..... I will vouch for Joe G. 100%.......good luck guys...and tell us how it turns out if you can....regards

Thanks Leon !

I'll also vouch for Joe Maples. He would be far closer than I and he can be trusted. He's a good guy whenever he isn't bidding up Detroit items I still need.

Ok, before I waste anymore time what do the experts think about these cards? Cabinet size.

I live two hours away & I'm not picking those up. They don't look good to me.

Other than COMPLETELY fake, they are interesting.....

I guess good fakes are kind of hard to make nowadays? Those aren't good fakes they are crappy ones....

Too bad this wasn't going to be a real find... the initial email was like a Pavlov's dog experiment. I bet there was a lot of salivating on keyboards happening when that initial post went up.

Thanks, just wanted to confirm my thoughts on these cards.

at least they went off the beaten path with those cards..........probably a slightly smarter than normal crook. People are always looking for the fake Mantles and fake Wagners. The cabinets were a little out of the norm...........

Steve- it wouldn't be the first time. But in that instance they came to me. I just had to walk down the street.:)

And those cards are of course obvious fakes.

Eric..........
Found all (3) pics at Legendary's back auction archives.........likely what the scammer did too............fakes look REALLY washed out and you can't see the bezel of the cardboard mount on them either.............

For us newcomers , please explain the difference between the 3 fakes and real versions. It was obvious to the veterans on here but I don't really see the difference on my screen. Thanks. Looking forward to hearing the differences instead of just saying they are fake. Thanks Mike

Most original photographs and color lithos have deep rich colors, or clear and well defined photo tones. The three fakes all look very washed out. Plus, the group of pieces fell under the category of too good to be true. The person claimed to have three unrelated pieces, all superb and all rarities. You always have to be suspicious when you see that.

Generally speaking real cards and cabinet cards don't have a very washed out look to them....If the image is blurry, and it's not just the scan, then most likely you have a fake.....at least that is my experience.

In addition, the photos make the pieces look like they are curled up which would rarely happen with a cabinet card. The cardboard mounts are extremely thick. The washed out photos are the biggest giveaway to me though. Plus you can see the mount on the Sporting Times is beveled (I said bezel earlier.....think that's for a watch) but the fake is not. The old 'too good to be true' adage also holds true on 'finds' like this.

Thanks for the insight. My vocabulary skills are increasing also ( bezel, beveled edge) ! I had to look them up.
