T206 Prices

Is it just me or does it seem as if T206 sale prices on ebay are falling more and more? Over the month I have bought several cards (in the $200-$300 range) for significantly less than SMR in most cases 60-65% of SMR. IS it the economy or could it just be that people willing to pay two to three hundred dollars per card is simply finally diminishing or maybe that the number of T206 collectors has stopped increasing?

Maybe these SMR publishers kept increasing prices from time to time, for no reason other than that their subscribers would feel good with that with the passage of time... Reckon they'll "adjust" their prices? No, no one would subscribe to see how things were getting worse.

Basically, as to just regular cards, I agree, prices are down a bit.

If only the guys with BINs out there felt the same way.. I'm not seeing any decline in BIN prices for cards that sit, month after month, unsold....

I will have to agree with your premise. I won two T206 graded lots in the recent Huggins and Scott auction that would have gone for crazy money three years back. Prices have also dropped on graded T205 and T201 cards as well (which is what I follow). So obviously, it is across the board on prewar cards. In my opinion, the post war cards are much more stable right now. Put a graded '67 Mantle on eBay and 9 out of 10 times you will hit VCP. Put a graded T206 Mathewson (or other comparable star card) and your odds of hitting VCP will be much lower.

I think eBay volume in general is lower in the last few months - less buyers on common material = lower prices.

Prices have also dropped on graded T205 and T201 cards as well (which is what I follow).

I have to disagree thast T205's have increased sharply.Some commons I got a yr ago are almost 1.5-3x's the price they were. Abbatchio is the best example. A grade 4 for almost $80, and a grade 5 PSA right now for almost $200:eek:. He is fairly available as well as others but the prices are a bit high. There are quite a few more also. I will say HOF'ers are a bit lower but commons are way high. Maybe its just me??

I have been picking up T206 commons in the $150 - $225 range for (PSA 6's). When I looked at the prices from 2004-2006 these got quite a bit more than today. MY OPINION....but I think there is definately an economic factor - less play money for avid collector's, so deals are abound.

I don't see values increasing for some time and if your patient, you can pull together a nice bunch of cards for less cash. I agree that some BIN sellers are still overpriced (by some $25-$75 per card) and they will sit for awhile.

I'm looking all the time for deals on T206s and in my opinion the real value in T206s are in the graded common cards. I've bought several nice PSA 5s for under $85.00. Some as low as $70.00. Last year they were around 100.00. SGC 50s are now trading in the low 40.00s. SGC 60s for around 60.00-70.00. On the other hand, mid-grade ungraded cards are still bringing the same prices, between $30.00 to $40.00. Sometimes you can get a good deal on a small lot of four or five cards, but usually they are pretty beat up. It doesn't make much sense to me to buy ungraded right now and worry about blurry scans and trimmed cards when you can get graded cards so cheap.

I've also noted that it depends on the dealer. If the seller is an established prewar vendor he or she can still get a decent price for their cards, but if its a newbee to eBay or someone that sells other items besides cards, they cannot get a good price.

Hall-of-Famers seem to be pretty steady. I've been shopping around for a mid-grade Cobb to add to the collection and the prices seem to be as high as ever.

At least according to VCP, a PSA 4 (or equivalent) has not increased sharply in price. If anything, the price has been farily consistent (averaging about ~$40).

I pretty much agree with Joe. Graded commons are pretty cheap right now. I have been trying to buy some raw commons and the prices are still pretty much what I was paying last year. You can buy an SGC 40 for just a couple bucks more than a GOOD raw card.

I am nickle and dime buying right now and the competition is strong, in my opinion, in the class just above raw beaters. I think you could put together a solid VG graded set for pretty good money right now.

PSA 7 T206's sold for $700+ 3 years ago. I think $400-500 would be considered top dollar today. I also believe a few "whales" were competing at he time for all the top cards. The T205's seem to be up and down. And the rest are mostly down on average. There always seems to be "designer" sets that are getting more attention at a particular time. The T207's seem to fit the bill currently, along with possibly the T205's. IMO, it seems some collectors have been either overwhelmed or possibly bored with the "Monster" and turn to similar sets of the era for a "break". My break has led to T207's, T205's, T200's, M116's and W601's taking their respective turns with my affliction...lol. Anyway, other that the first portion about PSA 7's. this is my best guess-timation.

This is correct but remember that there are quite a few of them that were not worded correctly or however it works for VCP. They all have been Grade 4+ cards and have been around $50+ easy. I use VCP regularly and although it is great there are still a few bugs. Hopefully as he goes the search spiders are more refined and able to pickup all graded cards regardless of title wording. BTW if anyone has a SGC 4+ Abbatchio FS in the $40 range PM me.
