Can someone please explain Beckett Grading. What is BGS, BVG and BCCG, what are the differences and how do they rate relative to PSA and SGC. Is a BGS, BVG, BCCG graded 5 card equal to a PSA5 or and SGC 60? Can someone please clarify for me?

The BGS and BVG 1-10/Poor-Mint grading system is parallel to PSA's & SGC's, with the BVG label used for vintage cards and BGS label for modern cards. The BCCG is a different thing with a different grading scale. How a BGS graded card will cross over to PSA or SGC, I can't comment. But PSAs don't always cross over to the same grade with SGC and visa versa. In fact, resubmissions have shown us that you can get different grades for the same card from the same company.

I would subtract at least 2 points (from the normal 1-10 scale) on most BCCG cards.

A BCCG 10 is not the same as a PSA 10 or and SGC 98.

Avoid BCCG at all cost. Not sure why Beckett would offer such a garbage service, makes their whole co. look bad IMO. Other than a BCCG 10, which might cross over to an 8-9+, anything less is not worth buying...

BVG (Beckett's vintage pre-80) and BGS (80s-Modern) are actually great services w/nice slabs. However, vintage (BVG) resale values are lower since they don't appeal to set builders. That said, you can trust the grade given.

What is BCCG though?

It's for regular collectors that just want their cards encased in plastic but don't want to pay for it... (It costs less to get your card slabbed with this service...)

In terms of quality, basically an intern takes a quick look at it and decides "looks like a 10 to me!" The scale is all screwed up, there are no subgrades, and the slab is cheap plastic one unlike the BGS/BVG heavy-duty ones.

Sadly, some eBay sellers and others have taken advantage of buyers assumptions that this service, since provided by Beckett, "must be pretty close to PSA/SCG" submit their cards w/BCCG, get a 7 or 8, and then sell it for at close to the PSA/SMR 7 value when in fact the card would receive a 2 or 3 with PSA.

Ok now I understand. Seems ridiculous to me that Beckett would offer BCCG, it cheapens/miscredits their entire service. Thanks for all the help.
