An infrequent off topic thread on my part :) I know many on this board many poo-poo modern baseball. However, one has to tip their cap and congratulate Mark Buerhle for this perfect game today-the seventeenth in baseball history! A revised list can be found by following this link....

James

Honorable mention to Dewayne Wise for his incredible defensive catch to save perfection!

Did you see the catch in the ninth inning? Gabe Kapler hit one that went over the fence, and the centerfielder hauled it back in, juggled it, and secured it with his bare hand. Amazing!

A no-hitter in 2007 and a perfect game in 2009...

It is crazy that there were almost 2 within 2 weeks of each other, the other being Jonathan Sanchez's no hitter that wasn't a perfect game only because a infield error by Juan Uribe.

That was a pretty great catch to save the perfect game, no hitter, and shutout.

Ramon Castro now joins a very select group (doubling the membership) of catchers who caught a perfect game and played for the Mets.

He's on my team in Roto league and I'm playing the team behind me head-to-head. Sweet!

That saving catch will be remembered for a long, long time!

Locally, there was some great video of the Phillies watching and cheering on the perfect game from the clubhouse before taking on the Padres last night at the bank.

Nice to see players that love the game and appreciate the accomplishments of their peers.

Heard that he's only the 3rd pitcher in baseball history to throw a no-hitter; pitch a perfect game; and win a world series game.

Can you name the other 2?

I think Cy Young, Sandy Koufax and Randy Johnson all did it.

It's Young and Koufax. Johnson has never pitched two no-hitters

A list (hopefully complete) of pitchers with a no-hitter and perfect game, plus the comcast video of the great Wise catch.

There have been plenty of catches as good or better than Wise's, but given the circumstances it should really go down as one of the most memorable.

Randy was 3-0 in the 2001 World Series, with an ERA of 1.04!

Who is the only player in Major League Baseball history to play on the winning side of three perfect games?

Paul O'Neill (Browning, Cone, Wells)

Only reason I stumbled across that fact was because I was watching the Yankee game last night, O'Neill was one of the color commentators and I wound up traipsing around on his website.
