I am not a fan of altered cards in any way, but have owned some and I am sure I will own more in the future. I have a chance to obtain (in trade) an E121 Ruth (Photo Montage Version) and need to get an idea of its value. The card is trimmed (about 99.9% sure it is), but have no idea how much this will hurt the value on a card like this. The card is pretty nice other than the fact it has been trimmed. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, and I would prefer to be PM'd about this rather than have it posted in this thread.

If you don't mind, Dustin, could you report any good info you get about how much of a percentage loss is associated with trimming an E121 Ruth in, say ,Ex condition? T

Mark - Will do. I just do not want the other party to miss out on getting a good deal or anything like that. I love the card and would love to have it, I just do not want to be in over my head on it. Thanks.

mmm you're trying to obtain the ruth, but in order for the other party to "not miss out on getting a good deal...", you would prefer all discussions be block and have any relevant information pertaining to the ruth sent to you privately?

i'm just trying to understand the situation. can we at least see a scan? or maybe not as someone could recoginze the source and swoop in.

chaddurbin - Here is the deal. The other party has offered me the card in trade. He has an amount he wants on the card, but I just did not see the card being worth as much as what he was asking; however, someone else may and may very well be willing to give his asking for the card. If someone were to post that the card was, in that person's opinion, worth a lot less than "other party's" asking, it could have an effect on his dealings. Not posting a scan without his permission.

I'd say, generally speaking, a sought after card like an E121 Ruth which is trimmed but with EX eye appeal usually gets valued around what a 2 sells for. Obviously that can vary quite a bit from card to card, but that's as close as I can come to a rule of thumb for how to value trimmed cards that are as desirable as the E121 Ruth.

Matt - Thanks for the reply, I always thought a little less than a two, more on the lines of a 1, but, again, could be very wrong. Also, which version of the Ruth is the more desirable?

ok fair enough...

a few years ago trimmed cards were probably less than a decent 1. these days depending on how much of the card is trimmed it's worth probably around a nice 1 imo...i would never pay "2" pricing for any altered card.

the ruth pitching w/bosox is by far the most sought after, followed by photo montage, holding ball, holding bird etc...

chaddurbin - That is more along the lines of what I was thinking...any idea of value on the said Ruth?
