My title isn't completely accurate, because I didn't buy the stock certificate below at a garage sale. I got it about 20 years ago at an antique show at a mall in Louisville, Ky. But after four moves covering three states during the past two decades, I had misplaced it, and until last week wasn't even sure that I still had it or whether I possibly might have sold or traded it away. Then, while going through boxes to get ready for our garage sale, I came across the certificate, still in the frame I put it in sometime in the early '90s.

Even though it's not a big-ticket item -- not to mention it doesn't even fit my collecting interests -- I still was thrilled to find it. Kind of like seeing an old friend again. I still remember how excited I was to find an old piece of baseball memorabilia at a show that consisted mainly of furniture, glassware and Churchill Downs postcards.

Anyway, just felt like sharing.

Nice. A real stock certificate and not one of those gimmicky money generator deals so many minor league clubs of the 1950s put out.

Rob,
Very nice. Which mall, Oxmoor, Mall St. Mathews, Bashford Manor, Jefferson? :)

Not to hijack from Rob's thread at all, but what is the typical going rate / worth on these stock certificates?

I recently saw a St. Louis Browns stock certificate from 1909 which intrigued me, but I don't really know much about these. Any general info would be appreciated!

Jeff,

Mall St. Mathews, which was in our neck of the woods when we lived there.

Louavul, great town. Would move back anytime. Lived there from '88-'94 out off Westport Road.

And don't forget to add, Derby glasses!

I am currently sitting not 7 minutes from the Mall in St. Matthews deep in the heart of St. Matthews. I love it here.

Stopped at a garage sale today an picked up this Michigan banner and the lady thought it was from the 1950's. It measures 29"x14 1x4" with the center emblem made out of leather and letters seem to be burt in.

My parents met on the U of Michigan campus and were married in Ann Arbor.

The Chicago address doesn't have a 5 digit zip code, and the 5 digit zip code was introduced in 1962-3. This would support, if not prove, the banner being from before then.

Nice find Rob.

I just posted a scan of some Life magazines that I found at a garage sale the other day on the pickup thread. The magazines were 1957 to 1967. They have some really nice articles along with some great pictures of Mantle, Clemente & Yaz to name a few.

That is a sweet looking U of M banner, nice find. I used to find some cool stuff at the Saline antique/flea market back in the day. Haven't been back since I bolted AA 15+ years ago unfortunately...

Paul,

Perhaps you want to clear up that by "AA" you meant Anne Arbor, and not Alcoholics Anonymous? (Or perhaps you don't.)

I have a lot of items I picked up at the market. It is a great sale. Thanks D.

Well...I did consume a lot of keg beer while there, but not that much!:p
