Posted By: Tim
I saw a Christy Mathewson card in a shop today that had the same front image as an E98 and had a blank back. The card appeared to be a strip card or cut from a box, was not color but sepia or black and white. Does anyone know what it may be? The shops owner didn't know anything about it.

Sorry I don't have a scan.

Posted By: Tim
I just stopped back by and the Mathewson is definitely red and he then pulled out a red Cobb as well.

Posted By: Tim
He didn't know what they were or what they were worth. He was asking for my opinion. We didn't discuss value as I didn't know what they were either at the time.

I will go back tomorrow and see what he wants for them.

Posted By: Bob
Tim- I recommend you buy them if the cost is not exorbitant, you can easily flip them for a tidy profit and buy cards you want with the cash, that is if you didn't want to keep them.

Posted By: Tim
It looks like the Mathewson you posted but it doesn't have the base path. There is a small spot of paper loss just above the name on the lower right edge.

The Cobb looks sharp but the borders weren't cut even.

Both cards are red.

I tried to take a couple of pictures with my phone but many variables led to two blurry pictures.

Posted By: John
Tim,

Very cool as the owner of the only two Matty's I know of glad to hear theres another. As for price there so tough to come by and so few change hands price is all over the place.

I will say that with the basepath is harder but both are really tough. I would say that I paid a little over 1k for the Blue non-basepath and 2k for the basepath version in red.

Keep us posted, love to see them.

Cheers,

John

Posted By: Tim Cathey
Thanks for the kind words from everyone.

The word "Rare" is thrown around a lot in the hobby but this card coupled with the chase made it a truly special addition to my collection.
