Posted By: leon
Since I saw a post asking about when we are going to the new board I figure I will throw this thread out here. It looks like it will be in the next 3-4 days. Matt and Mike have put a ton of work into it and it's looking pretty good again. We will get all of the little nuances worked out and this time we believe we have a web host that has exactly what we need. (knock on wood)...which is enough bandwidth on our shared server for us to be fast. Unfortunately I wiped out the registrations and a lot of the data that was transferred last time, accidentally. The data is being rebuilt, in a better way- so we can search better, and the layout has even changed (thanks to Matt) and it will look much more like this layout. The registration looks like it is going to work and this time I might be able to use the registration system the way it is supposed to be. Once again it will be a bad day for trolls.....So that is the update.....We will be there fairly soon and of course leave this one open just in case. One of (if not "the") first poll can be about titles. Once that is done then we can discuss if we want to use them or not. As I have said I think they could be fun but if very many people have big issues then that has to be taken into account too. best regards

Posted By: Rob D.
Jim,

I'm confused. Judging by your post, I'm guessing that once again you're indicating you won't be a member of the new board. Yet in the thread about user tiles and the proposed "ranking system," you were clear in your opposition to them and how they would be a detriment on the new board. But if you're once again hinting that you won't be using the new board, why would you care about its specifics?

Posted By: Peter Spaeth
I personally don't understand the reluctance to spend what surely would be a minimal amount of time learning whatever was necessary to participate on the new board, but if that is Jim's choice we should respect it and hopefully not get into another thread about whether he will or won't make the transition.

Posted By: barrysloate
Jim- if you want to do no more than read and occasionally post, virtually nothing will change. That's how I will start, and will learn some of the new features as I go along.

Posted By: davidcycleback
Posting on the new board is no harder or more complicated that here. Log in, read thread, press reply, write post, press submit. That's the way you do it here, that's the way you do it there.

Even Barry can do it, and he still sends auction updates by smoke signal.

Posted By: leon
That sounds too easy? It's the truth but it's supposed to be much more complicated and difficult. Almost 100% of the time bemoaning doing something is worse than just doing it....

Posted By: davidcycleback
Leon, reminds me a couple of days ago when I had to walk home. I whined to myself that I didn't want to walk the ten minute walk. After fifteen minutes of whining and procrastination, it dawned on me that if I had started walking when I had started whining, I would be home. D'oh!

(No; never charged; but I assumed it had been)

The head of the main office was there and in the course of our cordial conversation; he mentioned that yes; the equipment that office was using was state of the art. And in the next sentence; he stated with a laugh, yes, state of the art for 1985.

This board was a major step up when we moved here in 2001 from what had become the debacle of the full count board. Under good moderation; both pre-Leon and Leon's time -- this board has grown up wonderfully. HOWEVER; it is now way behind the time and for us to continue growing as a board; we need to move.

Will all the steps be easy -- well, um, I do believe we already got our answer to that and in much more rapid response than trying to view a thread on the 1st attempt of a new board.

However; if we as a group; don't make this move; we will eventually be too far behind the curve to get technical help when we need it.

Regards
Rich

As I said earlier in the post I wish everyone the best and believe that at the end of the day I helped expose the practices of some dealers and played a positive role in bringing it out. Never did get our collectors association off the ground but that was probably too ambitious.

Cheers.

Jim
