Posted By: Tim
I have picked up a few cards from this set recently and have grown to like them a lot. I know from doing research on them people tend to either love them or hate them, very few in between. Just wondering what some of your thoughts were.

Posted By: Phil Garry
I like the set a lot, I think it has a little bit of everything, the old (Ruth, Wagner), the new (Paige RC), ultra-tough shortprints (Newhouser, etc.) and condition sensitive issues (registration, centering). All in all, one of my favorite sets from the post-war era.

Posted By: Anthony N.
One of my all time favorite sets. It's got easy cards, tough cards, recognized variations (Aberson, Peterson and Hermanski) a myriad of color variations, retired icons, rookie cards, you name it.
If you're starting on this set Ted Z.'s article in Old Cardboard is a must. There isn't a lot that has been written about this set, but his article is very definitive and a great starting point.

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
In the Spring of 1949, these were my 1st colorful BB cards that I collected. As a 9 year old, I was
thrilled by them.....Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams, Stan Musial, Jackie Robinson, and many
more ballplayers that I would hear play, while listening to my old Vacuum Tube radio. Here they were
on little pieces of cardboard that cost me a penny to collect. You're darn tootin.....I love these Leaf
cards.....and, I still do.

Anthony
Thanks for the nice words regarding my article on this 1949 Leaf set in the Old Cardboard Magazine.

Incidently people, this set is NOT a "1948-49 issue"............
all 98 cards (and the additional variations) in this LEAF set were issued in 1949.....period.
The stupid Grading Co. have mis-labelled everyone these cards.
If you read my article, you will find very strong proof of this fact. And, I guarantee you that you will
be convinced.....never more having to say these cards are a "1948" issue.

TED Z

Posted By: Tim
Ted Z. please excuse my ignorance. After quick read on oldcardboard I learned that the set was really just a 1949 issue. I was initially just going by what you see on the graded holder in the card scanned above, shame on me.

I read this when I was looking for the article Anthony mentioned in his post.

Is this available anywhere to read or do I need to get my hands on a copy of Issue #9?

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
If you haven't gotten a copy, I would suggest contacting Lyman or Brett Hardeman (by clicking onto the Old Cardboard banner)
and purchasing Issue #9. They always have many back copies available.

After reading the 1949 Leaf article, if there are any unanswered questions, feel free to email me.

TED Z
