Posted By: steve
I would like to get one PSA 8 Topps Willie Mays card.

The 1952 and 1953 Topps in PSA 8 both go for more than I want to pay.

But of all the remaining Topps issues 1954 and beyond, which one in a nice PSA 8 should I get?

I am kinda leaning to the 1958 Mays card, but the 1962 is also tempting with very very low pop. The 1955 Topps Mays is beautiful, but little expensive for pop of 121. Or go cheaper price tag with maybe the 1964 - looks so cool.

Advice? Thanks, steve

Posted By: Paul S
Steve, rather than impose my own personal taste on yourself, here how I would go about, were it me: I'd pick the card that had the front/image I liked the most, and I'd forget about the pop reports, then see if I had the money. For instance, Topps '55 in 8 look totally bitchin' from my POV. I wouldn't care about the pop report if that's the one I wanted most and had the bucks.
Good luck with whatever you get and hope you'll post it.

*edited to say: I got no problem with your other favorites either.

Posted By: steve
Thanks for your suggestions. Folks tend to like a card picture shot of Mays smiling.

For just a wonderful looking card, the 1955 Topps may be the one - with a nice print job, the '55's can look like they are dripping wet.

But a close second is the 1962 - also smiling picture - and a wicked sneaky low population in PSA 8, kind of an eyebrow raiser for those in the know - I am partial to more scarce cards.

Maybe go for both these two. Will post when obtained.

steve

Posted By: Jason L
can't go wrong with 54-57, but whatever you do, stay the heck away from 1961, 1965, 1973

personal faveorite is a tie between 51,55 Bowmans and the 1957 Topps, although that wasn't an entirely relevant or helpful comment!

Posted By: steve
Thanks for your opinions. He has a nice smile on this card. Little voice in my head said, "go scarcity". This 1962 has super low pop in 8. 9's, well, I don't know if you will ever see one.

Posted By: Jason L
thanks for sharing...I didn't realize the condition scarcity on this card was so steep...

and I have to say, I'm very glad to see you didn't go after the 1961 - I think his worst card
