Posted By: Joe Jones
Is it common to find a 1960 Topps card with no yellow color on the back? I am assuming it is because of quality control, but I have never seen one in my limited experience.

Posted By: leon
Sorry that I don't collect 1960 Topps.....if I were going to do a set it would probably be 1961 as it's my birth year. I am surprised we don't have some 1960 Topps collectors that can help out. Maybe apathy .....

Posted By: Paul S
No apathy here. Just took me some time to get around to it, and I'm not sure that I'm representative to a thorough answer. Leon has successfully guilted me into fulfilling my forum obligation
However, I just checked my 150 or so '60 Topps. None of them are missing the yellow on the back. I bought most of mine around the mid-late 1960s, meaning that I doubt the reason I have no missing-yellow cards wouldn't be because someone was specifically collecting them for scarcity. BTW, these were bought on the west coast.

Posted By: Paul S
That's a real oddball. Is it yours? No name on back either. What's the front look like?

Posted By: Joe Jones
I didnt notice the no name on back. The card is mine and the front looks normal, but I might have to take a second look. I will scan it today and post here.

Posted By: Paul S
There are several different combinations that appear on the back of the 60 Topps, made more varied when you consider that they come in both gray and white-ish card stock. When the name isn't printed in black, then they use no color for the name at all -- what they do is print the color around it, the name, that is (you see this on the 59's too). In other words, normally you'd see the big yellow color rectangular box across the lenth of the top of that card, but no ink used at all where the letters of the name should be...it would just be the card stock underneath showing through. So, if no yellow, then nothing to define around the perimeter of the name.
Sorry, hope this makes sense and not imbecilic! Very cool card.

Posted By: Paul S
Neat. I guess the yellow ink is not missing from the front!
Did you acquire it recently or have you had it for awhile and just notice?
I have no idea what it would go for (not that you asked) but it is an interesting aberration. I wonder if those set collectors who must have every anomaly known to man- and woman-kind would fight over it in an auction? Get any emails about it yet? (not that you asked, ho ho.)
