Posted By: davidan
95% of the Beckett Magazines are devoted to modern day stuff; which doesnt interest me at all. Is there a good magazine, periodical or even Blog that does a nice job covering vintage? Specifically I am interested in Post War Vintage coverage 50's, 60's, and 70's stuff ...

Having been away from the hobby for a while any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated.

David

You can see some of their articles here:

http://www.psacard.com/smrweb/backissues/index.chtml

Old Cardboard typically focuses on pre war cards. But, there was a nice two part article done by Dave Hornish on 50's Topps.

http://www.oldcardboard.com/subscriptions.asp

Sports card collectors daily is a decent news source on all things hobby related. They usually have info on post war cards

http://www.sportscollectorsdaily.com/

I remember reading a blog a guy set up that focused on post war and modern baseball. He updated it frequently and had good info. His name and website escapes me, as i lost touch with the site awhile ago, but i'll post it if i can remember it.

There used to be a magazine called the trader speaks that covered post war. They had some great articles and info. Do a search on ebay to find past issues.

Other than that, im not aware of any other good sources for post war reading material. The usual suspects...Beckett, SCD, Tuff Stuff...are either too focused on modern or too focused on advertising. Maybe someone else here can help you out.

thanks.

Posted By: Anthony
You can get the entire run of VCBC (less issue #7) for about $140. Well worth it, and has some well written articles by board contributers Ted Z (whose '49 Leaf article in Old Cardboard is one of the best I've read in a hobby mag) and Adam Warshaw, among others.

After six weeks of waiting, no email responses, and no phone calls answered, I filed a Paypal claim.

The response was that they were sorry, but that since Don Betz had gotten sick, they don't monitor the web-site often enough. They did agree to send the back issues, but are not taking on any new subscribers at this point. I was told they have 8-9 back issue sets left.
